Program Objectives: Our primary aim is to guide the students both in the acting and musical theatre emphases towards the attainment of the highest professional level of training and performance they are capable of at their stage of development.
History: NWSA offers a solid artistic program headed by some of the finest award-winning faculty members recognized worldwide. Our programs are cutting-edge, stimulating and rich with the ethnic and cultural diversity that represents artistic trends globally. Students at NWSA benefit from numerous and unique opportunities including world renowned faculty and guest artists, internships, foreign exchange visits and artistic and cultural events unique to South Florida. Students learn their craft through acting technique, improvisation, movement, speech, dance, and music courses that are supported by training in the classical texts, the theoretical principles of drama, and practical application into the contemporary and experimental edges of theatre.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: Primary facilities are in MDC's Wolfson Campus' Building 5, including administrative and faculty offices, two studio production spaces equipped with lighting and sound equipment, acting, dance and voice studios, the Theater Division Library, scenery lab, prop room, costume shop, and storage, as well as the Louise O. Gerrits Theater. The Theater Division also performs in the yearly signature showcase Rising Stars at Miami Dade County Auditorium, directed by the Dean of Theater.
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: NWSA scholarships are awarded annually and are based on merit. The American Dream Scholarship helps the dream of higher education become a reality.
