Program Objectives: The School of Theatre is dedicated to preparing students of all identities for professional and academic careers in arts and cultural industries. Our programming commits to spotlighting topical issues, celebrating shared social values, and exploring humanity. With diversity, equity, and inclusion among our core values, we work to honor the experience, perspectives, and unique identities of our students, faculty, staff, guest artists, and audience.
History: Mentoring and guiding our students are the unparalleled faculty of the School of Music and the School of Theatre, comprised of renowned scholars, stellar performers, vibrant creators, and inspiring teachers with active careers and international reputations for excellence.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: Music & Dramatic Arts Buildin recently underwent renovation that included restoration of classrooms, practice space, and performance venues such as the historic Claude L. Shaver Theatre and creation of a new black-box Studio Theatre. The Claude L. Shaver Theatre hosts many LSU School of Theatre and Turner-Fischer Center for Opera performances, and seats up to 350 patrons. Home to Swine Palace Productions, the Reilly Theatre opened in spring 2000 and is LSU’s newest performance facility. The LSU Student Union Theater is a 1,269 seat proscenium arch theater complete with an orchestra pit. The Studio Theatre is a flexible black box space designed to be used in a variety of ways.
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: LSU offers several scholarship opportunities for both in and out of state students. Many of these can be renewed each semester if the GPA standards for the specific award are met.
