Program Objectives: Here at Indian River State College, we believe the best way for arts students to learn performance skills is by performing. In addition to taking curricular classes in acting, dance, and other theatre disciplines, our students get ample performance opportunities with 6 - 8 theatre/dance productions per season on both our 630-seat McAlpin Mainstage and in our more intimate 120-seat Wynne BlackBox.
History: Indian River State College is a public, comprehensive college with a statewide and national reputation for excellence. Continuing a 61-year tradition of responsiveness to community need, IRSC is committed to advancing the educational, cultural, career training, workforce, and economic development of its surrounding area. IRSC is recognized as the premier institution for higher education emphasizing quality, affordability and convenience.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: The IRSC Fine Arts Center features the 630-seat McAlpin Fine Arts Theatre, the 100-seat Wynne Black Box Theatre, Fee Dance Studio, classrooms and rehearsal rooms. A regular schedule of live shows is presented by students in the IRSC Theatre program, the student song and dance troupe "Company," as well as the Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and College Chorale.
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: Many financial aid and scholarship programs are readily available to eligible students, including over 30 full-ride scholarships per year provided to theatre students by the IRSC Foundation, Inc. We also have 24 dedicated dorm rooms for performing arts students and the department subsidizes half the cost of these dorms for scholarship students. And unlike most other programs, you do not have to "major" in performing arts to participate in our performing arts scholarship program or perform/crew our shows.
