Program Objectives: Designed for individuals pursuing professional work in theatre, musical theatre, and film/television. This program offers training in both classic and contemporary methodologies. We combine “on-your-feet” studio training with performance opportunities in both large-scale mainstage productions and intimate laboratory theatre settings.
History: Barry University has been part of the community for over seven decades; working closely with students to foster an inclusive and diverse environment. Students can pursue major or minor degrees in acting or technical theatre. Training is balanced between studio classes in acting, voice/movement, improv, directing, theatre history, and hands-on opportunities in stagecraft and production design. Students may enroll in special topic courses in devised, immersive and other non-traditional approaches to theatre.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: Ruth K. Broad Performing Arts Center has seating for 900. The Pelican Theater is an intimate space with seating for 50. The Quad Amphitheater is a permanent outdoor thrust stage located in the Fine Arts Quadrangle. The Fine Arts Studio 149, a Dance/rehearsal/performance space with flexible seating for 25-75. Fine Arts Studio, aDance/rehearsal/performance space with flexible seating for 20-50. The Gato Art Gallery, aVisual art/performance space with flexible seating for 25-100.
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: Barry is ranked among the nation’s top universities that enroll students in need of financial support according to US News & World Report. Barry Fine Arts Department offers several scholarships totaling over $20,000. Students are also eligible for $15/hour student work study positions in the Ruth K. Broad Performing Arts Center.
