Program Objectives: Averett University offers programs that teaches students the skills and knowledge they need to carry on this tradition of storytelling, with a thorough grounding in acting, writing, stagecraft, directing, and more. Theatre students will have the opportunity to work alongside faculty with Broadway, national touring, and professional regional theatre credits as they develop their craft in a creative and nurturing environment.
History: Since 1859, Averett University has grown and developed into a dynamic institution that serves students of all ages, offering more than 40 undergraduate majors with a number of concentrations and minors, along with 12 graduate programs with several concentrations. Dedicated to preparing students to serve and lead as catalysts for positive change, the University’s historic main campus is embedded in the heart of Southern Virginia with regional learning centers throughout Virginia and online.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: Averett University's Department of Theatre is housed in the Violet T. Frith Fine Arts Center and the Emily Swain Grousbeck Music Center. We offer many rehearsal spaces, recital halls and performance spaces, from our large proscenium theatre to our intimate Multipurpose performance room.
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: Every year, we award more than $20 million in financial aid and scholarships to 99% of our students. Our scholarship package lowers the cost of attendance by an average of 50%.
